Language
Auto-detect tries English, Hindi and Telugu and keeps whichever reads most clearly. For any other language, select it directly from the list for the most accurate result. First use of a language downloads a small recognition file — this only happens once.

How to extract text from an image
Upload a photo or screenshot and tap "Extract text." With Auto-detect selected, the tool reads the image in English, Hindi and Telugu, then keeps whichever result came back clearest.
When to pick a language manually
Auto-detect currently checks English, Hindi and Telugu only. If your text is in a different language, select it directly from the list — this is always faster and more accurate than auto-detect, since it skips the trial-and-error step.
Why does Auto-detect take longer than picking a language?
Auto-detect reads the image up to three times, once per candidate language, and compares how confident each attempt was. Picking the language yourself runs it only once.
